Trust. Between two people. I trust you. Don't let me down. A placebo is a drug which actually does not cure anything. It could just be sugar, shaped into small little pills to be taken everyday after dinner, but never on an empty stomach. And voila! your aches disappear, you feel much better, like a new person in fact! I wonder, is that what trust is? A sugar coated pill to make it all better. Why is this not going the way we planned? Why are there so many problems? Why is this not a fairy tale romance? Well..my dear..You have trust issues. You are the one who did not open up and lay down the welcome mat, and said, come on in, I give myself to you. You are the one who did not make it easy, you are the one who did not make an effort to trust me with your deepest darkest fears. You are the one who stayed in your ivory tower and shut the doors. But fear not. Here is the magic pill which will solve it all, no matter how sick it is, no matter if you know that it will never work out, it will be the same drudgery that it is now. No matter, your faith will conquer all. And it's so versatile.
Q: Why are you going out with someone else?
A: Don't you trust me?
Q: I don't like you hanging out with this guy?
A: Don't you trust me?
Q: Why did'nt you call me for so long?
A: Don't you trust me?
Q: Will we always be happy together?
A: Don't you trust me?
Q: Will you take care of me?
A: Don't you trust me?
Q: Will you break my heart?
A: Don't you trust me? The magic pill.

I Trust You
But fear not. Here is the magic pill which will solve it all, no matter how sick it is, no matter if you know that it will never work out, it will be the same drudgery that it is now. No matter, your faith will conquer all. And it's so versatile. Q: Why are you going out with someone else? A: Don't you trust me? Q: I don't like you hanging out with this guy? A: Don't you trust me? Appetite.
What is different in the way you see a tiger killing a deer in the forest and a tiger turned man-eater. For the first you would make excuses, and write sonnets on nature's glorious cycle, but, for the second, you would pull out the gun and make boots out of the skin. It is the same way we look at people around us. What is it that marks someone out as desperate, and someone else as just vivacious, or charming. The thing which turns someone from a lover, into a stalker, a murderer even. It twists all emotions, like a drug, making the colours sharper, the need stronger, turning it into a vacuum. Most importantly for female dynamics, it makes some women look like they are running behind men, while the same men would meet some women halfway, and then some. What is it about these women which makes them attractive to men, apart from the obvious reasons. Scarlett O'Hara, you see, was not beautiful, but men seldom realized it when caught by her charm...It then, does not belong to your face or figure, or your GPA, or couture. There has to be an explanation. It should not be just 'that special something'. Does that not defeat the whole purpose of having multi-million dollar industries made on the earlier hypothesis of beauty being skin deep? Or is it just the difference being starved and being healthily hungry?
Something about fate and connection
Something happens in a relationship. Two people suddenly fall under an illusion which makes them think that being together is the only way they can survive. It would be called herd mentality, if it were not for the obvious lack of a herd, in most cases. Then there's the usual. Anger, issues, jealousy, change, disillusionment. But, some of these wonderful species turn out more resilient than they are supposed to be. Then overcoming all the problems, all the lies, cheating and anger (assuming that there are only the normal problems), people still come together, time and again. It's like a cockroach. This relationship with an unusual life span, an ability to let all the water flow off its back ( or is that mixing metaphors?). The hard hearted may call it work, and very much work indeed, which is put into these extra special long lasting ones. But the ones who believe in magic, ones who believe in say, a universal deity of relationships who looks upon some special ones with a kindly eye, know that no human effort can match up to the wonderful irony which can be achieved by that jester called fate. So then, some sort of a connection and a little bit of cheering from fate can turn your relationship from a dreary run of the mill, simple country story to an all guns blazing, eternal devotion swearing, let's-screw-everything-that-is-wrong-between-us-and-still-make-this-work super relationship! Here's to the wonderful illusions that keep us going.
Sparks Flew?
Sometimes you can have just a moment with someone. A nose graze, an almost kiss, a long look. A moment when you are doing something totally random, and suddenly things become sharp...charged. Even when you are madly in love and sure in your thoughts, you can be flustered, by an imagined 'spark'.It rankles. This unwanted awareness, of someone, whom you never looked at twice. Your universe shifts and gains a new focal point. And here, I am not talking about a long drawn out crush lasting over years, though it may seem like it.It is only in that few seconds, when your breath becomes ragged, every nerve in your body seems awake and a strange lethargy seizes you making movement impossible, that you suddenly question fidelity and all it's made out to be.And in the end, you don't actually get anything out of it. Maybe a tumble, if you are one of the adventurous types. But if you aren't, it turns into an excruciating moment, and just that. Why then, is it considered essential for two people to experience that, just to know that they might be remotely compatible. Is it not an unnecessary fusion of two four lettered words which do not need to be merged no matter how many letters they might have in common. The separation of State and Religion. Bureaucracy and Jurisdiction. I think the flower children had it right. A least for now.
